My Online Schooling offers a complete package of education for primary and secondary pupils from KS2 to iGCSE.

The internet and technology plays a significant part in all our daily lives – in education, it is no different. The power of bringing people and knowledge together through online teaching has the potential to really change the educational prospects for many young people.

What is online schooling and how does it work?

There are many similarities between traditional schools, that have physical classrooms, and online schools. At My Online Schooling we employ exceptional, experienced, subject specialist teachers who deliver lessons in a very similar way that they would in a traditional classroom. Students can see and hear their teacher, ask questions, make comments, watch videos, work with their peers and use a range of powerful interactive features. All this is from the comfort of their own home, anywhere in the world, free from disruptions and distractions. All lessons are taught live in ‘real time’, just as they would be in a traditional school. We run the English National Curriculum and the Year 10 and 11 stage we prepare pupils for Edexcel iGCSE examination.

Can I home school my child in the UK?

Home schooling is on the rise and is completely legal in the UK. If your child is currently at school and you wish to home school them through online schooling, you must inform your child’s school by writing to the headteacher. More information about this can be found on the UK Government website however there is a summary of the requirements below. If you are joining us from overseas you must check with your local government about home schooling legislation. It is the responsibility of all parents or guardians to ensure they have de-registered their child from their school if they wish to join us.

“You can teach your child at home, either full or part-time. This is called home schooling. Write to the headteacher if you plan to take your child out of school. They must accept if you’re taking your child out completely. They can refuse if you want to send your child to school some of the time. As a parent, you must make sure your child receives a full-time education from the age of 5 but you don’t have to follow the National Curriculum.”

What if my child misses a lesson?

All lessons are recorded and can be viewed again at any time. This is certainly a feature not available in traditional schools and it makes it great for revising work and preparing for examinations.

What do I need?

You will require a PC or Mac with up to date software, a reliable broadband connection, a headset with microphone. iPads and Android tablets may also be used to access lessons.

What about the class sizes?

Classes will not have more than fourteen students. Small classes allow more a more individualised approach to learning, free from disruption.

What will my child’s classroom look like?

My Online Schooling uses state-of-the-art Adobe virtual classroom software as part of the virtual classroom.  Here, students will have their own login details, allowing them to access scheduled live lessons, as per their individual timetable. The range of features available to students is incredible, and the power of the virtual classroom allows them to interact and learn in a way previously impossible in traditional classrooms. The small class size allows teachers to answer questions instantly, review students work in ‘real time’ and give individualised feedback. Other features allow students to work in ‘breakout rooms’ to collaborate with their peers, view presentations, videos and interactive models set my their teacher.

What other learning features are available?

We delighted to be in partnership with PowerSchool, the world market leader in School Management Systems. The outstanding platform allows teachers to set and mark coursework, create assessments, upload lesson notes. Pupils can also send a message to their teacher about a lesson or a piece of work set to ask for clarification. Parents also get their own unique login which allows them to keep in touch with teachers, view attendance, grades, homework and teacher feedback. Comprehensive school reports are also sent home each term through the system.

How do you enrol?

Once you have decided to join us, please complete the School Enrolment Form. Once we have received this, we will be in touch confirm your child’s place.

Will be child be set coursework?

At My Online Schooling we aim to make all pupil’s experiences similar to that of a traditional school. As there are no classroom disruptions and moving from class to class, the teaching day is shorter as teachers can fit more into the time available. This therefore allows students more time for coursework, homework and self-study. My Online Schooling uses learning management system, PowerSchool where teachers can set coursework, projects, material and tasks for pupils. Pupils submit their work to their teacher, who in turn will mark work and provide formative feedback. For every lesson taught there is a piece of coursework set by the teacher. Pupils have one week to complete the work before submitting it to their teacher.

What about assessments?

Our teachers assess each pupil once a term in every subject. This is just a check on progress and it allows teachers to provide feedback in the school reports about any gaps in your child’s learning. At the Year 10 and 11 iGCSE level, teachers will run regular mock examinations to prepare pupils for iGCSE examinations.

How do we enrol for exams?

The only formal exams are at the end of Year 11 on the iGCSE course. We will support you to enrol at an exam centre close to where you live. This is an easy process and there will be a small fee which is payable to the exam centre.  Our teachers prepare pupils for iGCSE exams just as they would in a mainstream school.

My child struggles in a particular subject. Is there extra support available?

Yes there is! Our teachers run live weekly support groups in a range of subject areas which pupils are more than welcome to be a part of. There are also a range of After School Clubs ranging from Science, Debating, Storytelling and Creative Writing. Pupils can sign up for as many of these as they want and they are all included in the tuition fees!

How many terms are there?

Our school consists of three terms and dates coincide with the term times of traditional schools meaning plenty to time to enjoy the holidays with friends!
