In Year 12, pupils can progress onto AS and A Levels, typically progressing in the year after their International GCSE results.
AS Levels generally take one year to complete, while A Levels are studied across two years. Our curriculum is designed to help pupils develop intellectually as they explore their chosen subjects in greater depth.
As with every stage with My Online Schooling, we keep our classes at this level small, ensuring that our teachers have the chance to deliver more personalised learning.
All subjects are taught for three hours per week, with an emphasis on independent study outside the classroom. All the lessons are recorded, which not only provides a chance to catch up if any class is missed, but also provides an invaluable bank of resources for revision and recapping. Our Key Stage 5 courses follow the Cambridge International A Level curriculum unless otherwise stated.

This course introduces pupils to language in a range of sources. They will explore how the contexts of production and reception affect language choices, as well as looking at how writers and speakers present themselves to their audiences, constructing identities through their language choices. By concentrating on what language does and how it varies to perform different functions, teaching can build on pupils’ prior knowledge from International GCSE and on their experience as language users. This component is skills based, with the content being driven by individual pupils’ interests.
Pupils will study a selection of poems from a published poetry text. They will develop their understanding of poetic form, content and meaning, as well as their ability to make links and connections within their studied collection. Pupils will also study aspects of the form of drama via one play.
Pupils will need to explore the use of literary and dramatic devices and the shaping of meanings in their chosen play. Pupils will also be able to engage with different interpretations of their chosen drama text. Pupils will study aspects of prose via two thematically linked texts, at least one of which will be pre-1900. Literary study of both texts selected for this component should incorporate the links and connections between them, and the contexts in which they were written and received.
Pupils will develop their understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes – developing logical reasoning, learning how to construct mathematical proofs and extending their range of mathematical techniques in order to tackle increasingly difficult, unstructured problems. As such, they’ll explore coherence and progression, as well as learning how to apply mathematical approaches to ‘real-world’ problems – using their mathematical knowledge to make logical and reasoned decisions in solving problems both within pure mathematics and in a variety of contexts
They’ll discover how to use mathematics as an effective means of communication and how to read mathematical arguments and articles, while looking at how mathematics fits into other fields of study, in areas of work and in society in general.
Our A Level Physics course builds on the skills acquired at the International GCSE level. The syllabus includes the main theoretical concepts which are fundamental to the subject, some current applications of physics, and a strong emphasis on advanced practical skills. Practical skills are assessed in a timetabled practical examination.
The emphasis throughout is on the understanding of concepts and the application of physics ideas in novel contexts as well as on the acquisition of knowledge. The course encourages creative thinking and problem-solving skills which are transferable to any future career path. This course is ideal for learners who want to study physics or a wide variety of related subjects at university or to follow a career in science.
The A Level Chemistry course is designed to help learners gain a deeper understanding of the key concepts in chemistry and strong practical skills that will prepare them for university study. Pupils will develop lifelong skills of scientific enquiry, confidence in technology and communication and teamwork skills.
The key concepts of the A Level Chemistry course are atoms and forces, experiments and evidence, patterns in chemical behaviour and reactions, chemical bonds, and energy changes. Teachers will guide pupils through the key concepts to ensure mastery.
The A Level Biology course is designed to help learners gain a deeper understanding of the key concepts in biology and strong practical skills that will prepare them for university study. Pupils will develop lifelong skills of scientific enquiry, confidence in technology and communication and teamwork skills.
The key concepts of the A Level Biology course are cells as the units of life, biochemical processes, DNA, natural selection, organisms in their environment and observation and experiment. Teachers will guide pupils through the key concepts to ensure mastery.
Studying History at this level is an opportunity for pupils to build their interest in the past, developing an understanding of its intrinsic value and significance. They will learn about different identities within society, looking at aspects like social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity to build on their understanding of the past. Pupils will improve as independent learners, critical thinkers and curious minds. They will learn how to ask the relevant questions and research the significant aspects of history, exploring the nature of historical study.
Over the course of their studies, they will develop their use and understanding of historical terms, concepts and skills, while making links and drawing comparisons within and/or across different periods and aspects of the past. Finally, pupils will also learn how to communicate their historical knowledge, arguing a case and reaching substantiated judgements.
This geography programme encourages pupils to gain enjoyment, satisfaction and a sense of achievement as they develop their knowledge and understanding of the subject. The course will inspire pupils, not only developing their geographical understanding, but also teaching them to engage critically with real-world issues and places, and to apply their geographical knowledge, theory and skills to the world around them.
Pupils will grow as independent thinkers and as informed and engaged citizens, with an in-depth understanding of the role and importance of geography as one of the key disciplines relevant to understanding the world’s changing peoples, places and environments.
The Psychology programme is structured into nine topic areas: social psychology, cognitive psychology, biological psychology, learning theories, clinical psychology, criminological psychology, child psychology, health psychology and psychological skills. Throughout their studies, pupils will explore a wide range of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures, not only developing their knowledge but understanding how it applies, as well as learning how to analyse, interpret and evaluate scientific information, and to make judgements and reach conclusions.
A Level Sociology encourages young people to think critically about contemporary social, cultural and political issues. Pupils will study and explore a range of contemporary topics including inequality, power and control, social change and development, culture and identity, and human agency. This course provides pupils with the skills and knowledge to understand and analyse societies and human behaviour, preparing them for further study or and/or work.
This qualification is designed to help pupils enhance their linguistic skills, while developing their capacity for critical thinking, together with their understanding of the language, culture and society of Spain and the Spanish-speaking world.
Pupils will develop their control of the language system to convey meaning, using spoken and written skills, including an extended range of vocabulary, as increasingly confident, accurate and independent users of Spanish. They will develop their ability to interact effectively both verbally and in writing, developing language learning skills and strategies, including communication strategies to sustain communication and hold fluent, confident conversation.
They will engage with intellectually stimulating texts, films and other materials in Spanish, developing an appreciation of sophisticated and creative uses of the language, while understanding them within their cultural and social context. Pupils will also develop knowledge about matters central to Spanish society and culture, while learning transferable skills like autonomy, resourcefulness, creativity and critical thinking, together with the linguistic, cultural and cognitive flexibility that can pave the way for further study or employment.

The Business Studies programme for A Level is structured into four themes: marketing and people, managing business activities, business decisions and strategy, and global business. In the first two themes, pupils are introduced to how businesses work by building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to realistic business contexts and situations.
They then build their breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding in the next two themes, with applications to a wider range of contexts and more complex business information, requiring pupils to take a more strategic view of business opportunities and issues. Pupils are encouraged to use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of business, to understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives and to challenge assumptions.
In A Level Computer Science, pupils are encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of the fundamental principles of computer science and how computer programs work in a range of contexts.
Learners will study information representation, communication and internet technologies, hardware, software development, relational database modelling, and more. As they progress, learners will develop their computational thinking and use problem solving skills to develop computer-based solutions using algorithms and programming languages.
All Key Stage 5 courses are paid over 2 years over 5 terms.
