The COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed how children learn; music education is no exception. In many places across the globe, gone are the days (temporarily!) when children could learn an instrument with their tutor in the flesh. Luckily, places like Dash Home Learning Institute are offering online music lessons for children. Based in Dubai, Dash provides an effective alternative that allows students to continue to pursue and achieve their musical goals from home no matter where in the world they live.
My Online Schooling are delighted to be promoting Dash Home Learning Institute as the go-to provider for extra-curricular online music lessons. Like My Online Schooling, Dash recognises the power and potential of digital technology in broadening access to quality education for young people across the globe.

What are the key benefits of music education for children and young people?
There are endless benefits of music education. To name a few:
1. Language skills: Musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language. It can improve how the brain understands human language, which can help students learn a second language.
2. Improved test scores: Studies have shown that students who are involved with a high-quality music education program perform better on school tests than students who don’t engage in music.
3. Self-esteem: Music allows students to try something new and develop confidence as they master singing or playing an instrument.
4. Maths skills: Reading music includes learning quarter, half, and whole notes, which are essentially fractions. Many musical concepts have mathematical counterparts.
5. Making the brain work harder: Research shows that the brain of a musician works differently to a non-musician’s. Children involved in music have larger growth of neural activity than people not in music training.
6. Creativity: Music certainly nurtures kids’ creative side. Originality and flexibility are benefits of music education because they are key components of creativity and innovation.

How do online music lessons for children work?
Our lessons require a computer with a camera and microphone and a musical instrument (except for the Vocal lessons). The lessons take place via Zoom conference and our teachers are fully equipped to ensure the smooth and correct flow of the lessons.
Do students need any musical experience to enrol in one of your courses?
No prior experience is necessary for children to take our online music lessons. Our teachers have numerous years of experience teaching from beginner to advanced level.
Can students take music board exams such as ABRSM through studying with Dash?
Yes! Dash provides the option for guiding students through all exam boards such as ABRSM, Trinity (both classical and Rock & Pop), LCM and Rockschool.
Are your teachers qualified?
Yes. All our teachers are highly qualified professionals, and many have extensive performance experience. We require all our instructors to be licensed, and have a university or college degree in the programs and instruments they teach. We choose our teachers not only for their qualifications, but for their ability to relate to the students as well.
How long does it take to learn an instrument?
There is no set answer for how long it takes to learn an instrument. This varies from student to student and really depends on the individual, how much practice they do and their age. Playing is a physical skill so it does take repetition to improve. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished within a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
I don’t have any musical background or ability – can I still help my child practice?
Yes. Even if you don’t have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day, the student will progress. Many parents occasionally sit in on their child’s music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands. You are your child’s best coach!
Can I have a trial lesson before I begin lessons?
Yes, each instructor has already been properly screened and has been very carefully chosen for their skills and abilities. We are so confident in our teachers’ abilities that we do provide a free trial lesson so you and your child can see how you can benefit from our lessons.
